Hello Friends, Today I’m posting about a resting password of user on any Linux OS, Tested on Ubuntu, Kali, Arch. Test on your Linux OS and tell me working for you or not.smile

Steps to reset user password :

Requirement : User Name.


Step 1: Start the system.

Step 2: When the grub loader shows all OS then be prompted with a menu that looks something like the screenshot, Then click on recovery mode. [2nd entry from the top] and press Enter.

Step 3: Now you should see this menu like the screenshot.

Step 4: Select root and press Enter.

Step 5: Now you see a root prompt, like this:

Step 6: Enter the following command for switching Read-Only to write permissions.

mount -rw -o remount /

Step 7: Now Enter the following command to change the password.
(In this example, Admin is my username, Which password I want to reset.)

passwd Admin

Step 8: Type new password to be at the prompt.

Step 9: Reboot the machine.

Step 10: Now you will be able to log in with their new password.

Steps to reset root password :

Requirement : User Password Needed [Using Which You Login ]


Command U need to Use : Type the following command:

sudo passwd
Enter your password and press Enter, Now Enter the new password for SuperUser
